Having fought through 4 previous rounds, we beat Sussex County on neutral territory at Nottingham on 15 September 2014 by the narrowest of margins in the final of the 2014 Murphy Shield competition.
With the seven match final tied at three each, it all came down to the best of three game encounter between Nigel Martin for Durham and David King for Sussex.
Having won the first and lost the second, Nigel was 2-5 down in the decider before coming back to win the game and the shield 7-6 on the “golden hoop”.
The Murphy Shield is the golf croquet knock-out competition for club teams of four based on restricted handicap. The total of the handicaps of the team members must not exceed 12 and there can be at most one member with a handicap of 2 and none below that.
